The Reign of Terror is Over

Guard

Fury precedes me as I walk through the glass double doors of the bank with War by my side. We’re well known here. We have most of the accounts for our businesses here and investments in this bank. Our dollars made this bank flourish in the last five years, and Frank Talbot has a lot of explaining to do. Mainly, why he’s assisting in making Hanna a sacrificial lamb being led to slaughter by Pennerton.

I nod at Louise, the elderly bank teller. She’s a sweet older woman who knitted Gavin a baby blanket and made sure it was delivered to Ava at the hospital so we could wrap him in it. I give her a polite smile and tip my hand to her, soliciting a glowing smile. As I walk past, I see Frank is alone in his office, making this easier and less messy. Without knocking, I make my way through the door with War following close behind me, shutting it after him. Frank’s eyes light up like Christmas lights when he sees me. He seems to think I’m here to make his bank even richer, which would be a normal thought considering in the past I’ve done just that.

“Mr. Stone, it’s great to see you again.” Frank rises to his feet, extending his hand to clasp mine. I don’t offer my hand. Instead, I brace my fists on his desk and get in his face, staring him down until it dawns on him this is not going to be a pleasant visit.

“Sit down, Frank,” I say in a menacing tone. Frank immediately drops into his chair. He’s usually a happy-go-lucky kind of man. He’s middle-aged and going gray and none too keen on giving up his fried foods, but he’s always been a good man. At least, he has been to Satan’s Pride and their families.

“Is something wrong, Mr. Stone?” he questions, glancing at War, then back to me.

“I’ve always thought you were a fair and honorable man, Talbot, and I’m pissed to find out you’re bleeding a good woman dry.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he says while tugging at the collar of his shirt.

“Hanna Marie Lennox.” I growl her name, fury growing stronger in my gut.

“Dear God,” he breathes out, expelling a long, painful breath.

“He isn’t going to help you. Satan is here to deal with you.”

“I didn’t want to…” Frank begins.

“Don’t give a shit. You’re going to go back to the first day Hanna opened an account and reimburse every fucking dime you charged her without cause. Don’t fuck with me, Frank. I already have the numbers, and it’s over fifty grand with interest. What I want to know is why?”

He looks up at me, both remorse and relief showing on his face. “Pennerton threatened to have me removed from the board and from my place at the bank. He said he had proof there was a second set of books. Books he had made up, but no one would believe me over him.
